About Myself

I am a mathematician, recently retired from the mathematics department at Ohio State, where I worked since 2009 after 25 years at the University of Houston and 4 years at Arizona State. I received my PhD from New York University and taught at Columbia and Princeton before striking out for other parts of the country. I am originally from Canada, and lived in Ottawa and Toronto before moving to the US for graduate school at a time when Canada was not ready for female research mathematicians. Forty-eight years later, in 2004, I returned for 4 years as director of a mathematics research institute in Toronto – the best job I ever had.

My husband, Marty Golubitsky, and I have two children, raised in Houston (which we loved, by the way), who now live in Somerville MA (daughter Elizabeth, a network engineer at AWS who goes by “Chaos”) and Richmond VA (son Alex, a lawyer, married to an art historian, parents of our grand-daughter, now age 2 1/2).

Although retired, I am still active in research with former postdocs, and am much involved with mathematical organizations (so-called “learned societies”). Most of the people I am close to live in other cities.
