
Second Age In Place Community Meeting
Meeting Leader: Barbara Braham, PhD
Ten of us met on Sunday, Nov 10, to categorize and prioritize all of the ideas that have been suggested for an Aging in Place program at North Bank. Thank you to each of you who filled out cards, including those of you who couldn’t attend. We had dozens of cards to sort! Below is a summary of the ideas and how we clustered them into themes.
Coordinated Internal Lists Voted #1
- People willing to help with errands, preparing meals, walking a dog, changing lightbulbs, regularly check-in with others via phone or text (10)
- List of people’s skills that they are willing to share (3)
- List of people needing some type of assistance, including a list of people wanting a daily wellness check-in (7)
- System/structure to connect people needing support or a buddy with those who are able to provide support (this was part of many of the above cards)
Activities Voted # 2
- Physical activities – Walking group(s) that meet regularly that you can join when you want (6); Exercise group at regularly scheduled time (2); Tai Chi class (4);
- Social activities – Daily Coffee group (4), Movie group in lobby or at theatre (2); Happy hour monthly or weekly (2); Grill floor for dinners/gatherings (2); organized registration and transportation to Columbus activities such as Franklin Park Conservatory, OSU Gardens, Metro Parks, exhibits, theater etc. (2); Games, e.g. scrabble, euchre (4); hobby buddies for swimming, playing music, etc. (2)
- Intellectual activities – Information/presentations on healthy aging (2), speaker series on varied topics i.e. Program 60 at OSU, current affairs, Cols Metro Library resources, Great Courses program, Great Decisions program (4)

- Compile list of personal services that can be delivered in your unit (e.g. hair stylist, masseuse) (1)
- List of recommended doctors and dentists (1)
Other Topics Discussed
- Safety Concerns :
Grab bar recommendations and installers (2), Fall prevention information (1), Technology (apps) to support safety (2), Phone chains, check-ins, shared travel plans for safety (1) (This is closely related to the Internal Lists above, but specifically focused on being sure a resident is physically safe)
Building Changes:
- North Bank provide complimentary coffee in the lobby
- Accessibility changes for the outer front door, and fire doors on 4
- Create Community library
- Fitness Room pulley machine vendor needs to make adjustments so it works more easily
